Boise, Idaho - The Hawks chipped away at an early five-run deficit but could not complete the comeback as they dropped their final game to the Eugene Emeralds by a score of 11-5.
The Emeralds jumped on Hawks starting pitcher, Javier Palacios in the first inning and scored five runs on six hits, including three consecutive hits to start the game.
The Hawks responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs of Emeralds miscues to pull the score to 5-2.
Palacios settled down and pitched four innings, allowing six runs - one earned - on nine hits with one strikeout but picked up the loss.
The two teams traded runs in the fourth inning. The Emeralds scored on a Frandy De La Rosa RBI fielder's choice in the top half of the inning before Luis Castro gave the Hawks the equalizer, popping an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Terry McClure.
With the Emeralds leading by a score of 8-3 in the eighth inning, Tyler Follis ripped a two-run single that scored Marcos Derkes and Luis Castro and pulled the Hawks to within three runs at 8-5.
The Emeralds added three runs on five hits in the ninth inning, capped off by a De La Rosa two-run single and the Emeralds took the final game of this three game series by a score of 11-5.
The Hawks (6-15) will travel to face the Hillsboro Hops (13-7) tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m.
Notes: Tyler Follis hit a two-run single and doubled his season RBI total to four… Craig Schlitter gave up his first earned run as a Hawk… Javier Palacios picked up his third loss of the season… Kevin Padlo received the night off.
