Boise, Idaho - The Eugene Emeralds scored early and often as they defeated the Hawks at Memorial Stadium on Monday night by a score of 9-0.
Colin Welmon made his seventh start of the season for the Hawks and allowed three runs on four hits over four innings pitched and picked up the loss.
The Emeralds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Frandy De La Rosa sent a line drive into the left field corner, scoring Donnie Dewees who reached on a leadoff single.
The Emeralds added runs in the second and third innings both on wild pitches to take a 3-0 lead.
That score remained until the eighth inning when the Emeralds tacked on three runs, highlighted by a Blake Headley two-run single to take a 7-0 lead.
The Hawks threatened in the top half of the eighth inning when Marcos Derkes slapped a leadoff triple down the right field line, but the threat was eliminated when Derkes was thrown out at home plate attempting to score on a Wesley Jones fielder's choice.
The Emeralds added two more runs in the ninth inning and took the game by a final score of 9-0.
The Hawks (17-33) and the Emeralds (24-26) will meet for the final game of this three game series tomorrow night at Memorial Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
Notes: Kevin Padlo extended his hitting streak to six games… Marcos Derkes went 2 for 4 with two stolen bases… Colin Welmon picked up his fourth loss of the season… The Hawks lost their sixth consecutive game.
