Boise, Idaho - Brian Mundell went 3 for 4 and chipped in two RBI but the Hawks could not overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Eugene Emeralds by a score of 6-3.
The Emeralds came out the gates swinging, putting up four runs in the first inning off Hawks starting pitcher, Ryan McCormick.
The Hawks battled back, scoring one run in the bottom of the first on a Kevin Padlo RBI single before Brian Mundell ripped a two-run double in the third inning that came within inches of clearing the left field wall.
The Emeralds added runs in the sixth and seventh innings and pushed their lead to 6-3.
Adbert Alzolay and Tyler Peitzmeier combined to shut down the Hawks over the final six innings of play and the Emeralds took game one of this three game series by a final score of 6-3.
The Hawks (17-32) and the Emeralds (23-26) will meet again tomorrow night at Memorial Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
Notes: Kevin Padlo now has a five game hitting streak going back to before the All-Star break…Ryan McCormick picked up his first loss of the season… Brian Mundell went 3 for 4 and added his 23 and 24th RBI's of the season… The Hawks have lost a season high five games in a row.
