Boise, Idaho - The Boise Hawks took an early 3-0 lead on the Everett AquaSox but needed a ferocious late-inning rally to take game two of the series by a score of 8-6.
The Hawks got on the board first in the second inning when Hamlet Marte connected for his first home run of the year off AquaSox starting pitcher, Jose Santiago.
The Hawks added two runs in the third inning, scoring on a Kevin Padlo RBI single and a wild pitch from Santiago to take a 3-0 lead.
The AquaSox responded with one run in the fourth inning before Jordan Cowan hit a two-RBI single in the fifth, that tied the game at 3-3.
The Sox proceeded to put three runs on the board in the top half of the sixth inning on RBI doubles from Ryan Uhl and Yordi Calderon, taking the lead 6-3.
The Hawks answered and tied the game in the bottom half of the sixth with three runs of their own.
A leadoff double from Padlo and single from Brian Mundell set up Marte for an RBI sacrifice fly. Following a Luis Castro walk, Wilkyns Jimenez smacked a two-RBI double into the left-center field gap that tied the game at 6-6.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Hawks put together a two-out rally off Sox reliever, Dylan Silva. Eric Toole reached on a fielding error and Jimenez dropped in a bloop single before Marcos Derkes ripped a two-RBI double that one hopped the right field wall and gave the Hawks the victory with a final score of 8-6.
Jack Wynkoop picked up the win for the Hawks, pitching four innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
Silva took the loss, going two and one thirds of an inning and giving up two unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Hawks and AquaSox square off for game three of this five game series tomorrow night at Memorial Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
Notes: Kevin Padlo had two stolen bases on the evening and is now 11/11 on steal attempts this season… Hamlet Marte hit his first home run of the year… Marcos Derkes grabbed his first hit in a Hawks uniform, an eighth inning RBI double that gave the Hawks the lead.
