Eugene, Oregon - Colin Welmon pitched five shutout innings and the Hawks took the series win, defeating the Eugene Emeralds by a score of 5-1.
Colin Welmon received the start for the Hawks and pitched brilliantly, going five innings and giving up no runs and two hits while striking out five to pick up his first win of the season.
Carlos Herrera led off the game with a walk and Marcos Dereks and Terry McClure followed with RBI singles to give the Hawks an early 2-0 lead.
That score would remain until the ninth inning when Kevin Padlo led off with a solo home run, his fifth homer this season. Following back-to-back walks, Nate Causey ripped a two-run single to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead.
The Emeralds broke up the shutout in the bottom of the ninth, hitting a solo home run off Hawks reliever, Cristian Quintin.
Jose Paulino took the loss for the Emeralds, pitching six innings and giving up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
The Hawks (15-25) return home tomorrow night to face the Vancouver Canadians for a five game series at Memorial Stadium.
Notes: All-Star Kevin Padlo stole his 20th base of the season… Carlos Herrera is now batting a team high .309… Colin Welmon picked up his first professional baseball win.
