Boise, Idaho - In a classic pitching matchup the Volcanoes squeaked out a 2-1 victory over the Hawks on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
Jack Wynkoop received the start for the Hawks and gave up an early solo home run to Chris Shaw before settling down to pitch five innings of three hit ball while striking out five Volcanoes batters.
The score remained until the bottom of the seventh inning when Steven Leonard dropped an RBI bloop single over the first baseman's glove that scored Wesley Jones and tied the game at 1-1.
The lead didn't last long as the Volcanoes answered right back in the top of the eighth inning, scoring on a Steven Duggar two-out broken bat RBI single that gave the Volcanoes a 2-1 lead.
The Hawks were unable to put together a late-inning rally as they dropped the second game of this three game against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
The Hawks (15-21) and the Volcanoes (18-18) will meet tomorrow night for the final game of the 2015 season. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
