Keizer, Oregon – A Carlos Herrera home run tied the game in the eighth inning but it would prove to be not enough as the Boise Hawks fell to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday evening, losing their fourth consecutive game.
The Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning off a three base throwing error on a Hamlet Marte ground ball that scored Brian Mundell and Max White.
The Volcanoes evened the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning on a Julio Pena two-run single.
The Volcanoes added an RBI single from Jose Vizcaino in the third inning and a solo home run from Chris Shaw in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
Following an eighth inning leadoff double from David Dahl, Carlos Herrera tied the game at 4-4 with his second home run of the season.
The score would remain tied until the bottom of the ninth inning when Ronnie Jebavy hit a first-pitch walk off home run to give the Volcanoes the 5-4 victory.
Cory Taylor picked up the win for the Volcanoes, pitching the ninth inning and giving up one hit.
Cristian Quintin took the loss, pitching one inning and giving up one hit and one run on the home run to Jebavy.
The Hawks and Volcanoes meet again tomorrow night for game two of this three game series. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m.
Notes: Brian Mundell hit his sixth double of the season… After swiping his thirteenth base of the year in the third inning, Kevin Padlo was caught stealing for the first time in the eighth inning… David Dahl hit his first extra base hit as a Boise Hawk.
