Boise, Idaho – Hamlet Marte slapped two singles with an RBI but it was not enough as the Hawks dropped their second consecutive game to the Spokane Indians on Monday night by a score of 8-3.
The Indians led off the game with three straight hits, including back-to-back triples to take an early 2-0 lead off Hawks starting pitcher, Drasen Johnson.
The Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the first on a Brian Mundell RBI fielders choice before the Indians rattled off six unanswered runs over the following four innings, pushing the score to 8-1.
The Hawks added runs in the sixth and seventh innings on RBI hits from Carlos Herrera and Hamlet Marte but that would be all the offense to be had as the Hawks fell 8-3.
Johnson took his third loss of the season for the Hawks, pitching two innings and giving up four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Emerson Martinez took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and picked up the win for the Indians, pitching six innings while giving up two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
The Hawks (11-21) and Indians (16-16) will meet for game four of this five game series tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
Notes: David Hill made his first appearance for the Hawks this season and gave up three runs over two innings with three strikeouts… The Hawks raised their league leading stolen base total to 69… Steven Leonard’s five-game hitting streak came to an end tonight.
