Boise, Idaho – On a soggy night at Memorial Stadium, the Indians used an eighth inning grand slam to defeat the Hawks by a score of 9-7.
The Indians put up three runs in the first inning off Hawks starter, Colin Welmon who pitched three and two thirds of an inning and picked up his third loss of the season.
The Indians took a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning before the Hawks put up three runs on no hits in the bottom half of the inning.
The Indians tacked on one run in the seventh inning before Dean Long connected for a grand slam in the eighth inning, making the score 9-3.
Hamlet Marte hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Hawks threatened in the ninth, scoring three runs and bringing the winning run to the plate, but could not complete the comeback as they fell by a score of 9-7.
Blake Bass got the start for the Indians and picked up the win, going five innings and giving up no runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
The Hawks (12-22) welcome the Hillsboro Hops (19-15) to Memorial Stadium tomorrow night for the first game of a three game series.
Notes: Kevin Padlo stole his 17th base of the season... Hamlet Marte added two RBI to up his season total to 12.
