Boise, Idaho - In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hawks put the winning run on first base but could not bring him home as they lost to the Hillsboro Hops for the second consecutive night.
The Hops got on the board first, putting up two first inning runs on a two-out rally off Hawks starting pitcher, Logan Sawyer.
In the second inning, the Hops tacked on another run on a Sergio Alcantara fielder's choice, taking a 3-0 lead.
It wouldn't be until the end of the sixth inning when the Hawks scored their first run on a Marcos Derkes RBI single to make the score 3-1.
The score would hold until the bottom of the eighth inning when Kevin Padlo ripped a two-out double that skipped off the left fielders glove and tightened the score at 3-2.
The Hawks threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning, putting the winning run on first base but could not capitalize as they fell to the Hops for the second time in as many nights.
Jeferson Mejia picked up his third win of the season for the Hops while Sawyer took the loss, his second of the season.
The Hawks (12-24) and the Hops (21-15) will meet tomorrow night for the final game of this three game series. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
