Keizer, Oregon - The Hawks erupted for 11 runs and swiped a season-high nine bases on Thursday night, as they ran past the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes for an 11-8 victory.
Determined to snap a four-game losing streak, the Hawks came out swinging in the first inning, bringing nine men to the plate and scoring four runs, all with two outs.
The Volcanoes responded and tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom half of the first inning before the Hawks added two runs in the second and never looked back.
The Hawks would play add on, scoring two runs in the third and fourth innings before Hamlet Marte pushed the lead to 11-4 with a solo home run, his second homer of the season.
However, the Volcanoes would not stay dormant as they scored four unanswered runs, highlighted by a sixth inning three-run double from Chris Shaw that made the score 11-8.
That score would hold as Taylor Black was credited with his third save of the season and the Hawks ended a four-game slide.
Dylan Thompson picked up his first win for the Hawks while Nolan Riggs took the loss for the Volcanoes.
The Hawks (9-19) and Volcanoes (16-12) will play the rubber match of this three game series tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m.
Notes: The Hawks stole a season high nine bases and maintained the league lead in stolen bases with 61… 4 Hawks batters had multi-hit games…Hamlet Marte smacked his second home run of the year and now leads the league in extra base hits… The Hawks scored 11 runs on just two extra base hits… The Hawks look to win their first series tomorrow night.
