Everett, WA – The Boise Hawks jumped out to an early five-run lead on the Everett Aquasox but needed some late inning magic to hold on for the 11-10 win.
The Hawks wasted no time getting after Aquasox’s starting pitcher, Lane Ratliff. In the top of the first inning, after a single and a hit batter, Kevin Padlo smashed a towering 3-run homer high over the left field wall to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, the Hawks added two more runs to take a 5-0 lead, aided by a wild pitch and a hit batter by Ratliff.
The Aquasox picked up two runs of their own in the bottom of the second, closing the lead to 5-2.
After back-to-back doubles from Terry McClure and Luis Castro to lead off the fourth inning, Padlo narrowly missed his second three-run home run of the game, bouncing a double high off the right field wall to give the Hawks a 6-2 lead.
However, the Aquasox would not go quietly as they scored four runs in the home half of the fourth inning, fueled by a two RBI single from Yordi Calderon to pull the Aquasox within one at 7-6.
The Hawks stretched the lead to 8-6 in the fifth inning after Brian Mundell hit a solo home run to dead center field.
In the bottom of the seventh, a fielder’s choice and an error by the Hawks allowed the Aquasox to tie the game at 8-8.
After the Aquasox walked the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, Padlo stepped to the plate and once again delivered big, ripping a double to left-center field that scored two runs before Hamlet Marte was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
The Aquasox responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, helped by an RBI double from Johan Quevedo, tying the game at 10 apiece.
Following a single in the top of the ninth off the bat of Mundell, Eric Toole stepped to the plate and belted a two out RBI double high off the hand operated scoreboard, giving the Hawks an 11-10 lead.
Cristian Quintin put down the Aquasox in the bottom of the ninth and picked up the win as the Hawks took a wild game one by a score of 11-10. The two teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
Notes: With 6 RBI’s in the game, Kevin Padlo now leads the Northwest League with 13… Padlo, Max George and Eric Toole all recorded two doubles for the Hawks on the evening… As a team, the Hawks hit 8 doubles on the night…Cristian Quintin picked up the win and the blown save for the Hawks.
