Salem, Oregon - Nate Causey hit a three-run home run and the Boise Hawks extended their season-high winning streak to five games, defeating the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes by a score of 5-0.
Colin Welmon took the mound for the Hawks and picked up his second win of the season, pitching five shutout innings and giving up four hits with two strikeouts.
The Hawks put up one run in the third inning after Steven Leonard slapped an RBI single that scored Wilkyns Jimenez before Nate Causey belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning that gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, the Hawks scored one more run on a Brian Mundell RBI single that scored Kevin Padlo.
Matt Meir and Craig Schlitter shut down the Volcanoes hitters as the Hawks won their fifth game in a row, shutting out Salem-Keizer by a final score of 5-0.
The Hawks (13-16) will meet the Volcanoes (14-15) for game two of this three game series tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m.
Notes: The Hawks have their first five game winning streak since August 2013… Nate Causey hit his second home run of the season and now has 18 RBI's… The Hawks pitched their second shutout of the season… Colin Welmon is now 2-4 on the season.
