Boise, Idaho – On Christmas in July, Brian Carroll went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and led the Hawks to victory over the Hillsboro Hops by a score of 5-2.
The game began the same as the previous two nights, with the Hops jumping on the scoreboard first. This time on a pair of fifth inning RBI doubles from Trevor Matsui and Zach Nehrir, giving the Hops a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs off Hops starting pitcher, Tyler Bolton.
Steven Leonard led off with a single and reached third base on a throwing error by Hops third baseman, Nate Robertson. Brian Carroll crushed an RBI triple that one hopped the right-field wall before Carlos Herrera slapped an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Kevin Padlo added an RBI fielder’s choice and the Hawks would never look back.
The Hawks tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth innings as they took the final game of this three game series by a score of 5-2.
Alec Kenilvort picked up his first win of the season, pitching two and one third innings of shutout baseball. Bolton took the loss, giving up four runs in six and two thirds innings pitched.
The Hawks (13-24) will hit the road tomorrow for the start of a three game series against the Eugene Emeralds (17-19).
Notes: Brian Carroll raised his batting average to .298 after going 4 for 4 on the evening… Kevin Padlo added his 25th RBI of the season… Carlos Herrera stole four bases on the evening.
