Boise, Idaho - The Boise Hawks took the lead after putting together a four-run seventh inning but could not hold on as they fell to the Spokane Indians on Sunday night by a score of 10-9.
The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a Nate Causey RBI single before the Indians put together six unanswered runs on Hawks starting pitcher, Javier Palacios.
The Hawks put three runs on the board in the third inning. Brian Carroll led off with a walk and scored on a Max White RBI triple. Carlos Herrera and Hamlet Marte each added RBI singles and the Hawks cut the lead to 6-4.
The two teams traded runs in the sixth inning before the Hawks erupted for four runs to take the lead in the seventh inning.
Marcos Derkes led off with a towering solo home run over the right field wall, his first of the season. White followed with his second triple of the night and scored on a Herrera RBI single that tied the game at 7-7.
Tyler Follis then reached on a fielding error and scored on a Brian Mundell two-run double that gave the Hawks the 9-7 lead.
That score would remain until the top of the ninth inning when the Indians scored three runs and took the lead off Hawks reliever, Cristian Quintin.
The Hawks threatened in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the tying run to third base but could not score as they fell to the Indians by a score of 10-9.
Quintin took his second loss of the season for the Hawks while Tyler Davis picked up the win for the Indians.
The Hawks (11-20) and Indians (15-16) will meet for game three of this five game series tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m.
Notes: Kevin Padlo left the game in the third inning after a ground ball struck him in the face… Carlos Herrera stole his 14th base of the season and now trails Drew Jackson and teammate Padlo for the league lead… Max White became the first Hawks player to hit two triples in a game this season… Nate Causey hit his first RBI of the season after making his first start since opening night.
