After playing for the Grand Junction Rockies last season, Yonathan Daza joined the Boise Hawks roster at the start of the season and took the Northwest League by storm.
Originally from Maracay, Venezuela, Daza currently leads the league in batting average, hits, slugging percentage, runs scored, total bases and extra base hits.
“I feel good,” said Daza. “I feel good in this country, I feel good with the coaches. I just feel good.”
Daza joined several of his Grand Junction teammates from last season when he arrived in Boise and felt comfortable, as he has quickly picked up English.
“We played together in Grand Junction and this team is good,” said Daza. “We’re getting better and I like it here.”
Despite hitting for a league leading .418 batting average, Daza still believes he can improve on his skill set.
“I want to be hitting better,” Daza explained. “If you’re hitting good, the team is winning.”
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Daza has high expectations for himself.
“My goal this year is [win] a championship and play in the All-Star game,” said Daza with a smile.
He will look to accomplish those feats in the South Atlantic League as he was recently recalled to the Asheville Tourists.
