New Boise Hawks outfielder, Brian Carroll is ready to make a name for himself this season in Boise.
A four-year starter at UCLA, Carroll was both a star on the field and in the classroom, receiving an All-Pac 12 honorable mention and academic selection.
In 2014, Carroll’s final season with UCLA, he appeared in 47 games, hitting .252 with 22 runs, seven doubles and 14 RBI while posting a .991 fielding percentage.
Carroll went unselected in the 2014 MLB draft and spent the past year improving his skills and working towards fulfilling his dream of playing professional baseball.
It wasn’t until this past spring when Carroll received a call he had been anxiously waiting on.
“Before spring training, I got a call from the Rockies saying they wanted me to do a workout,” said Carroll. “It went well and I signed right afterwards.”
The Rockies were the first team to contact Carroll, who says he didn’t know how everything would work out for him.
“I was hoping to get signed but I didn’t know if it would happen,” said Carroll. “I just wanted to work hard and hope to get that call. I was happy it came from the Rockies.”
Carroll picked up his first professional hit and run scored for the Hawks on June 24 against the Eugene Emeralds.
